The Gorodetsky glacier is located at an altitude of 3583 to 4339 meters above sea level, located on the northern slope of the Zailiysky Alatau ridge, in the upper reaches of the Ozernay River, in the Ile-Alatau park in Bostandyk district of Almaty.
The Gorodetsky glacier consists of two branches - Western and Eastern. The perimeter of the glacier is 9596 meters, the area is 4.19 square kilometers. Currently, the glacier is retreating. The end of the left branch from 1938 to 1961 retreated by 320 meters, the right one from 1923 to 1960 by 173 meters.
Moraine deposits of the glacier filled the bottom of the valley with a length of more than 5 kilometers. The total length of the left branch is 5.5 kilometers. The brand line runs at an altitude of 3770 meters above sea level.
