The moraine, flowing lake South Karkuldek is located at an altitude of 3137 meters above sea level, is located in the upper reaches of the western tributary of the river of the same name, on the southern slope of the Dzungarian Alatau ridge in the Eskeldin district of the Almaty region.
The area of ​​Lake South Karkuldek is 36381 meters, the perimeter of the lake is 873 meters. The length of the lake from southwest to northeast is 327 meters, the width in the northern part of the lake is 172 meters.
On the north side and southwest of the lake there is a glacier completely covered by a moraine. The lake is located in a glacial cirque, which is closed by a moraine in the upper part; this is an amphitheater-shaped basin that closes the upper end of the glacial valley.
South-west of the lake, in addition to a small glacier, on the slopes there are snow, firn and individual ice masses that feed the lake. A river flows out of the north-eastern part of the lake, which, after 820 meters, flows into the Karkuldek River on the right.
1200 meters to the north-west of South Karkuldek Lake there is a nameless, moraine lake at an altitude of 3320 meters above sea level. At 2730 meters to the north-west of South Karkuldek Lake, there is Karkuldek Lake located at an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level.
2540 meters to the north-west of the South Karkuldek lake is the Sredny Karkuldek lake located at an altitude of 3453 meters above sea level. 1450 meters to the north-west of the South Karkuldek Lake is the Lower Karkuldek Lake at an altitude of 3352 meters above sea level.
North Karkuldek Lake is located 2910 meters to the north and slightly west of Lake South Karkuldek at an altitude of 3336 meters above sea level.
