Berg glacier is a valley glacier, is located on a northern slope of the Dzungarsky Ala-Tau, in Balakora riverheads (inflow of the river Lepsy). The area of 16,7 kilometers square, length of a glacier of Berg of 8 kilometers, volume of ice makes 1,83 kilometers square, the area of an ablyation of a glacier of Berg makes 8,7 kilometers of square.
The snow line passes at the height of 3600 meters above sea level. The glacier terminates at the height of 2850 meters above sea level, on a crest 7 kilometers long is Satpayev's tops with height of 4340 meters above sea level, Bergh Tsentralnaya.
The first information on a glacier was supplied in 1856 - 1857 by P. P. Semenov-Tien-Shanskim and V. V. Sapozhnikov. In 1947 an expedition of the sector of geography (since 1983 - Institute of geography) AN the Kazakh. SSR under the leadership of N. N. Palgova visited a glacier and called it in honor of the Soviet geographer L. S. Berg.
